When I say I am a Christian

Hiya! 🙂 I hope we are all doing good and having a great week. No long story today, I just want to share one of my favourite poems. It was written by Carol Wimmer and its such a lovely reminder of God’s grace. It brings the verse below to mind:

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. – Ephesians 2:8-9 (New King James Version)

While we are called to own our identity in Christ, we are not to lord it over others. We have no basis to be judgmental or boastful as though we saved ourselves or we are any better than the next person. Everything we are is as a result of God’s grace. Check out the poem below…

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not shouting, “I’ve been saved!”
I’m whispering, “I get lost sometimes
That’s why I chose this way”

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I don’t speak with human pride
I’m confessing that I stumble –
needing God to be my guide

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not trying to be strong
I’m professing that I’m weak
and pray for strength to carry on

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not bragging of success
I’m admitting that I’ve failed
and cannot ever pay the debt

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I don’t think I know it all
I submit to my confusion
asking humbly to be taught

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible
but God believes I’m worth it

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache
which is why I seek God’s name

When I say, “I am a Christian”
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority
I only know I’m loved

Amazing, innit? 🙂 Visit whenisayiamachristian.com to find out more about the poem and its author. Have an amazing day, may it be filled with constant reminders of God’s love and grace.

The more boastful or judgmental we are,the more we show how little we know of ourselves or situation. In all of life’s battles, the true victor is the Christ! The One who paid for all our victories. May we always be thankful.
